Cryotherapy Made Simple with Gilad Lutfak

At ThrIVe Drip Spa, we’re committed to providing advanced technology and services that can help you look, feel, and perform better in your day-to-day life. Director of operations Gilad Lutfak is constantly looking for innovative ways to deliver the kind of healing and transformative benefits our clients are looking for. It’s why we’re proud to offer the Whole Body Cryo-Sauna among our several treatment options.

What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy has been used for decades within the health and rehabilitation field as a way to promote tissue healing and reduce inflammation. Traditionally, this modality has been restricted to target body areas only, by way of reusable cold packs and ice. Unfortunately, these forms of cryotherapy are limited in effectiveness, since ice can melt and treatment areas tend to be smaller.

These days, the proliferation of cryo “chambers” has taken cryotherapy to a whole new level. At ThrIVe, our Whole Body Cryo-Sauna system is a one-person cryotherapy chamber that allows you to safely immerse your body in cold temperature while keeping your neck and head exposed. Using liquid nitrogen that’s vaporized when exposed to air, the chamber is cooled to an impressive -160°F to -220°F. Sounds crazy? Don’t worry. Sessions aren’t long, ranging from 30 seconds to up to 3 minutes, so you’re safe from any negative effects of prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.

How Does Cryotherapy Work?

Cryotherapy has a positive effect on the circulatory system, musculoskeletal system, nervous system, and metabolic system. Research has shown that extreme cold temperatures stimulate the body’s peripheral muscles to tighten and temporarily restrict blood flow. This redirects blood flow and increases circulation to the most important core organs, bringing blood that is concentrated and enriched with nutrients and oxygen.

Once a person returns to normal room temperature environment, the central nervous system stimulates the muscles and peripheral blood vessels to expand. This causes an influx of the same nutrient- and oxygen-enriched blood into the body’s muscles.

It’s also been suggested that whole body cryotherapy enhances the central nervous system’s ability to allocate important enzymes, nutrients, and hormones throughout the body–especially to areas of the body that require healing or recovery form injury or training.

What Are the Benefits of Whole Body Cryotherapy?

So, does cryotherapy actually do anything? Gilad Lutfak has asked, and his ThrIVe Drip Spa team members and clients alike have responded with a resounding yes. People from almost every walk of life can benefit from a Whole Body Cryo-Sauna session–from top performing athletes to weekend warriors to people who are simply looking to look, move, and feel better.

Cryotherapy has been shown to offer several benefits to the body, including:

  • Pain relief
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Muscle recovery, promotion of cellular recovery, and prevention of delayed-onset muscle soreness following exercise
  • Improved tone and firmness of skin
  • Promotion of weight loss (you can expect to burn up to 800 calories per session!)
  • Promotion of over-all healing and recovery, thanks to it’s immune boosting and tissue healing capabilities

Ask Gilad Lutfak: Is Cryotherapy Right For Me?

Cryotherapy chambers are safe, but they’re not for everyone. Thrive Drip Spa’s director of operations Gilad Lutfak recommends that before testing out our chamber, you speak with your physician. People who should not use cyrotherapy chambers may include people who are pregnant or lactating; people with cardiovascular conditions including dysrhythmia, angina, heart disease, and anemia; seizure disorders; and cold allergies.
